Anyone else watch Bones? I'm about a third of the way into the 4th season now, I just started watching a few weeks ago and I really like the show. I've been a regular viewer since the beginning but I've been losing interest gradually in the recent seasons. It's a good show it just seems to lean more toward the ridiculous lately, like all the other mystery shows take themselves too seriously and cater to the older set, while Bones seems to be trying to appeal too much to teens. But I love the characters. I hate gory shows and this one can be pretty bad so I only really watch for the characters.

I actually like the gore (twisted as that may be) but I definitely have been drawn in by the characters more. I'm loving the later seasons with Dr Sweets just because I find the profiling killers fascinating. I haven't noticed crazy mysteries yet but maybe that will change. I think the only odd thing I'm finding is that as I get further into the series, the less I want Booth & Bones together. David & Emily's chemistry is fantastic and I love their dynamic but I tend to agree with the cast that just because the chemistry is there, doesn't mean they have to be shipped. Plus as I watch, they continue to emphasize the frustration that Booth has when Bones isn't understanding about his faith. That's something that would come into play in a relationship especially with kids and I like the idea of them being incredibly close but not taking it farther. I still think they make a hot couple though

That's something that would come into play in a relationship especially with kids and I like the idea of them being incredibly close but not taking it farther. I still think they make a hot couple though Sometimes the gore is entertaining. Mostly because it seriously grosses my mother out. I remember a few seasons ago there was a plot with a rotted corpse that ended up inside some farm machinery I can't remember the name of (for plowing a field or something?) and they showed the corpse so my mother left the room. I called out to her after a moment that it was ok to come back cause the scene was over and at that exact moment they showed the corpses face, it's eyeball fell out and a bucket of maggots fell out. It was so disgusting and my statement had been so wrong (just as well she hadn't came back) that I was laughing hysterically for the next few minutes. It's not so much the mysteries that are crazy just the way some of the characters (either regular or guest) behave. I can't think of a specific example at the moment but every now and then there's an eyeroll moment that grates a little much for me. I'm actually not really shipping Bones and Booth too much either. I think it's one of those things where they should only get together in the last episode because seeing them together would majorly screw with the show but a few seasons ago (about the time they went to London) my view of them as a couple just changed. There chemistry was still great but it was almost as if the nature of it had changed (I wondered a little about their real life relationship). Things seem to have gone back to normal now. I like them better as friends (where there differences only add dimension not create major rifts) with just hints at the possibility of more. Though I can't imagine it with either of them, maybe their views will changes and the differences will lessen at some point and in some future a relationship could work. Though I really can't imagine Bones ever coming to have a faith of her own (much as I'd love her to).

Yeah I think since London was a good point. Especially because since then there have been these moments where Bones still doesn't use compassion towards Booth. And I'd like to believe that even Temperance, with her Aspergers and addiction to logic and empirical evidence, would have learned over these years not to dismiss Booth. The faith one is my big issue with staying a Booth/Bones shipper. Not just because I think real life makes it a lot harder to have a relationship when one person is religious and one isn't but it plays so much into how Booth raises Parker. Bones would want kids to be rational and logical and say they don't need to rely on family. But Booth is raising his kid to share his beliefs and a sense of protecting the weak and family. Those have to be reconciled. And I feel like because the show has made so much emphasis on Booth's faith in God and Bones' faith in science that one of them will compromise too much of themselves if they moved into a relationship. But then both of them would have serious trouble trying to explain their relationship to a spouse so I feel like there has to either be a split or a reconciliation. I know the basics of the 5th season finale and that there will be a 1 year break between the end and the start of the 6th season. So I'm hoping that maybe Bones has some experiences that teach her to be more accepting of other people's faith and values, even if she doesn't personally agree. If she at least got that far, I could see a few more years getting her to a point where I'd be okay with her and Booth together. Right now though, the show compromises their characters too much by putting that ship out to open sea.
I think Hodgins is my favorite character though. I love TJ Thyne in the role. And I think the show had one of the most seamless additions out there when they added the character of Cam. I forget she isn't in the 1st season for the most part.

I was just thinking that about Cam last night. We're a bit behind in NZ so the season finale hasn't aired here. The ep last night focused on Cam a little more then normal and I was thinking how normal it is that she's there and yet isn't an original. There was an episode awhile ago where I felt for the first time that Bones really respected Booths faith, I can't remember if it was this season (and eps you're up to or not) or even the precise points in it (I tend to watch Bones while I'm working on Portrait or making jewellery so my attention isn't always completely with it) but I remember thinking it was nice and a bit of growth for her. Then she did something shortly after and we were back at square one.

Hmm, I must not be up to that episode. But that's the hard thing is that she'll finally pick up on something and act more compassionately then turn around and go right back to her old habits. I'm on episode 15 of season 4 right now and I did like that Sweets told Bones (in therapy apparently) that she has to stop correcting people all the time. i dont' know how much it works. I just wish I knew how serious a level of Aspergers the writers keep Bones at. That would help explain to me how much is something she really can't overcome and how much is lazy writers. If Bones is supposed to have a fairly serious form of Aspergers, I could totally understand that she'd have moments of understanding and compassion, then revert back to her standards over the past few decades. As it is though, it seems like a character who makes a lot of other people bend over backward for her. To Emily Deschanel's credit though, even when I want to shake Bones, she keeps these emotions of Temperance there that make me still find sympathy.

I've watched every episode of that show, I love it. I'm amazed by how the actors manage to remember all the scientific terms and bone names. May sound weird, but I feel a little more intelligent after watching an episode
