I thought that since we're all trying to be healthier that it might be fun to have a thread for different food items we try or recipes that turn out well.
I'm trying to do more cooking so that I can get ideas of more flavors that go together. Hopefully then I won't get bored with all my fruits & veggies like I would if I only did salads. Some of the tricks I've found so far.
Broccoli Sprouts are not only tastier than broccoli, they're like a million times healthier and they mix really well with sandwiches & salads.
Kale is one of those superfoods and it goes in a ton of stuff. So far I've found that purple kale, steamed, is the best way. It's still crunchy and doesn't get quite as bitter as sauted and there's pretty much no flavor to kale. I've been putting it in pasta and quinoa.
Oh, also quinoa-superfood and so much tastier than brown rice. Like brown rice is the healthy version of white rice...quinoa is like the healthy version of couscous. I even mixed it in my pancake mix.
Smoothies have pretty much become a staple though. I use 1/2 cup of blueberries, 6 frozen strawberries, 1/2 a peach (mine are frozen slices so its like 5 slices), 1 6oz package of yogurt (I've been told to try kefir in place of yogurt but I haven't yet), 1 cup tropical fruit juice (the expensive kind that's pure fruit and no added sugar) and 1/2 cup carrot juice.
You can't taste the carrot juice at all and since the juice I use has beets in it, I get like 3 servings of fruit & 1 of veggies. Plus blueberries and yogurt are superfoods too!
