This show is taking over Gossip Girl's time slot in January (for four months)
Life UneXpected centers around the story of 15-year-old Lux (Britt Robertson, Swingtown), who has decided to emancipate herself after a lifetime of foster family round robin. In her quest to become emancipated, Lux discovers her birth parents, Nate “Baze” Bazile (Kristoffer Polaha, Mad Men) and Cate Cassidy (Shiri Appleby, Roswell). When a judge grants temporary joint custody to Baze and Cate, they agree to try to give Lux the family she deserves. But is it too little too late? Dawson’s Creek’s Kerr Smith also stars.

So, I posted about this as a comment on the blog too, but I figured I might as well say it here. Haha. I love Shiri Appleby in pretty much anything she does. I've been a fan since Roswell. It was one of my favorite shows, still is, and I thought CW had passed on this show. I didn't realize that it was picked up at all, so I'm really happy that it was. I'll definitely be watching. And, I like that it's going with the attempt at a happy family, even though that's likely not where the show will end up cause it is the CW after all, but it's a nice change from the shock value storylines on 90210, Melrose Place, and Gossip Girl.

Did anyone catch the pilot last night? What did you think?
The show debuted pretty strongly (better then Melrose Place and the Beautiful Life anyway) with 2.74 million viewers so hopefully they won't be pulling the plug on it quickly.

I was pleasantly surprised by the pilot. To be honest I havent been the biggest fan of the CW's new shows last year. I really wished they hadn't passed on Body Politic, but I think Life Unexpected, now having seen an episode of it has potential. I adored Brittany Robertson in it, missed seeing Shiri Appleby on my TV screen and love Kerr Smith since Dawson's Creek. I think I'll def. be sticking with this for now.

I caught the pilot, but I missed the second episode. I think it has a lot of potential, and I really like the cast, so I hope they at least let it go for a full season before they make any major decisions on it. It definitely has a similar mix of the snark/sarcasm and the family aspect that Gilmore Girls had, so they might gain some viewers just from the ad campaign they have going that uses that comparison. The CW doesn't have any "family" show right now though, so I don't know if it's really going to hit with their current audience.

I watched the Pilot (or at least a rerun of it) awhile back and another episode last Monday. Then I caught up on another ep online. Wait, there's three episodes as of now right?

yeah 3 episodes. I really like the show. Its well done, its heartfelt and while Cate isn't my favorite character, I already care about Ryan, Baze, Lux, Bug, and Tasha so it seems to be on good ground. I really hope the CW keeps it. This is the type of show people want.

This sounds hopeful for renewal:
spoilertv.com: Apparently THE CW is deep in contracts negotiations and is finalizing the paperwork for renewing : Gossip Girl ,90210 ,Smallville ,Supernatural , ANTM and The Vampire Diaries for next season. Expect official renewal annoucements for the above shows later this month. One Tree Hill: There are some messy contracts and negotations and it could go either way but even if renewed it will likely have budget cuts and maybe lose more cast members and producers. SOAPNET has the option of renewing it if the CW were to cancel it. Life Unexpected: The CW is very happy with it’s performance so far but is afraid to made a “Southland” decision so they’re waiting for more data but it is leaning heavily on renewal. However it is likely to be back midseason. Melrose Place: decision will be made in May but baring a miracle don’t expect it back. Though the CW is pleased with it’s recent rerun ratings’ slight improvement and there is some international interest in the show.

I hope One Tree Hill keeps going but I can see it being canceled. Just because if contracts are up in the air, James Lafferty has his sports production company, Bethany Joy Galeotti has her duo and is developing The Notebook as a musical, Sophia is trying to do more work as a producer, Antwon's arrest and jail time isn't helping, and as much as I love some of the new characters, it is hard to really mesh with them. I'd be curious to see if they'd consider a spinoff. It seems like the kind of thing with possibility but then again its a struggle without Leyton and if you lose Naley, you've lost the show. (Much as I love Brooke, its Nathan & Haley that anchor One Tree Hill.)

I've decided I'm a Cate and Ryan shipper.

^Oh definitely. Cate & Ryan belong together. I'm still not overly fond of Cate (I think its just Shiri Appleby, she doesn't have the most warming personality) but I think its a testament to both Kristoffer Polaha and Kerr Smith that I love both Baze and Ryan. I want Baze to find someone but I also think Cate & Ryan definitely belong with each other.

I don't think she does comedic mani very well. At the same time there are things about her character that I really relate to which is frustrating.

Yeah maybe I should clarify. I like the character of Cate. She's real and flawed yet confident and just a good character. I just can't stand Shiri. I think that's why I can still watch the show. I love the other characters and the idea of Cate enough to get past Shiri. But I wouldn't be offended at all if they got a different actress.

Yay! I love that Liz the producer twittered that they got the good news today then realized that Twitter had already known for 15 minutes. Gotta love social media! haha
I'm super excited even if its only 12 episodes for now. I just hope they can move away from the whole Ryan or Baze thing for a while. I think that's the only thing (besides Shiri) that bugged me about the first season. I think they went through too many storylines. It would have made more sense to me to have the first half about Baze & Cate just learning to get along for Lux and then the later half be more about Lux wanting her parents back together. End on the cliffhanger of Ryan & Cate fighting and then Cate sleeping with Baze. Of course, what's done is done but I do hope they don't rehash that same story in the 2nd season. But still, yay for renewal and Melrose Place being canceled!

But still, yay for renewal and Melrose Place being canceled! I think some shows suit only having 12 episodes a season. Like, I really liked the Terminator tv series but the first season was great and the second season sucked and I think it was mostly down to the fact that they suddenly had twice as many episodes and didn't focus so much on each episode. It rambled on and viewers minds wandered. I feel like they need to expand their characters a little more in the next season. I liked that the first 12 episodes revolved around their little family but at the same time it started to get tedious and a little depressing that the episodes were all problems. I'd like to see Baze's roommattes in their own right, not just as extensions of the other characters. Three people is great for a film but too small a cast for an ongoing series.

I am so happy that this show gets a second season! When I started watching I din't really know who Shiri Appleby is! I hadn't really seen her in anything but a lifetime movie but I found I really love her as an actress! I went out and bought all three Roswell seasons and LOVE them!!
