 A Midsummer Night's Dream
« Thread Started on Nov 3, 2009, 2:18am »

I finished working on a production of this play, literally, yesterday.

Anyone else know this play, work on it, played ap art, worked tech, or have any connection to it at all? :)

Favorite characters?

Interesting or funny moments with the mechanicals? "Rustics" in our play.

Surely some theater kids are here :)

Sadly I have no knowledge of it. I've always wanted to be involved in theatre but never done it.

I'm sure I've read the story of Midsummer Night's Dream at some point. I remember some scheming pixies and a lot of people falling asleep in a field. Of course my memories of it are tinted by The Suite Life of Zach and Cody and 'Get Over it's' renditions.

I've never worked on the play myself, but I've seen a couple different versions of it when I was in school. The first time i saw it was in the fifth grade. I was in an accelerated academic program and my class got to go see it at a local performing arts center. We didn't read it or anything. We were basically given the cliff notes and then told, okay we're going to see it, so it was a little hard to understand. Haha.

The drama club when I was in high school did it though too, and I spent a lot of time helping friends memorize lines. It's definitely one of Shakespeare's funniest plays, but not my favorite. My favorite of his comedies is 12th Night.

For people who are familiar with the play, I recommend seeing the movie Get Over It. It's a few years old. It has a high school drama department attempting to put on a "rockin" version of the play with Shane West and Kirsten Dunst. It's not a great movie, but I love the scenes where they attempt to perform the play.

It's my personal favorite of shakespeare's comedies. I saw several productions. "Lord what fools these mortals be..."
